OVERVIEW

Sunday Car Club (SCC) is about creating car culture for the next generation. I lead development on its Fortnite game: a collect-and-flex car tycoon set in SCC City, home to the official in-game Mecum Auction House.

In under a year the game went from a pack-opening prototype to a living city with trading, traffic, and a live Mecum auction every 30 minutes. We launched the auction house alongside Mecum's Indy Spring Classic, then took the game on the road to Monterey Car Week.

HOW SCC GREW

Sunday Car Club didn't launch as the game it is now. This is how it changed, release by release, and what I worked on at each step.

  1. OCT 2025

    Pre-production

Car culture for the next generation

I wrote the game bible for SCC: open packs to pull rare cars, show them off in your garage, and raid other players' bases. Five pillars (collect, flex, steal, progress, culture) and an 11-week plan to launch.

    Launch

Launch day, in game and in LA

The island went public the same day as SCC's first in-person car meet in Los Angeles, hosted by Stable Ronaldo and Ray Polanco, where cars co-designed with Callum were revealed in game and in real life. More than 2,000 people came out.

    Live update

A winter update with F.A.T. International

In collaboration with the F.A.T. Ice Race in Big Sky, Montana, we snowed in the map and added F.A.T. Ice Race themed cars. It was the first time we re-themed the island around a real-world car event, which set up everything that came next.

    Rebuild

Rebuilding the game as SCC City

Opening packs alone didn't give solo players enough to do, so we rebuilt the island as a city tycoon with zones that unlock better cars, traffic that keeps the streets moving, a cardex inventory, player-to-player trading, and a recurring auction.

  5. MAY 8–16, 2026

    Partner launch

The Mecum Auction House goes live at Indy

We launched with Dana Mecum's 39th Original Spring Classic. Every 30 minutes a Mecum auction runs downtown: cars drive the red carpet, stop on the turntable, and players bid. When a player consigns a car, a Mecum transport truck drives to their garage to pick it up. We ran a playable booth on the auction floor, and the game was featured on ESPN with Rutledge Wood and on Mecum in the Morning.

    What we learned

    Designing for the auction floor

Watching people play at Indy taught us a lot. Many kids weren't used to mouse and keyboard, and most visitors had 10 to 15 minutes, not an hour. So we planned controller stations, short Mecum-themed mini-games, and a Car Hunt that works both in game and at the booth.

    Live event

    Monterey Car Week

SCC went back on the road with Mecum, this time with a dedicated gaming lounge at Monterey and Stable Ronaldo live from the auction floor.

    Now

A brighter city, and what's next

The city just got a full daytime lighting pass, and VLO Studios became an Unreal Engine Service Partner, with SCC City as the art for the announcement.

KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

Designed the original pack-opening loop and wrote the game bible for the January 2026 launch

Rebuilt the game as SCC City: tiered zones, a cardex inventory, and a city traffic system

Built player-to-player trading (cars, cash, and gears) and a full live auction system

Built the Mecum Auction House: red-carpet runway, turntable bidding, and a transport-truck consignment sequence

Supported on-site activations at Mecum Indy and Monterey, then turned what we saw into design changes

Shipped in close collaboration with VLO, Mecum Auctions, and creator Stable Ronaldo
